The Five

From Coffee to Wine: Discovering the Allure of Feeling+ and Areni

Welcome to The Five, a hub for socialising, food, wellness and memorable experiences. Housed within its five blocks and annexe are hidden gems waiting to be discovered in the vibrant community of Damansara Heights, Kuala Lumpur.

The first is Feeling + on Level 1 of Block A (otherwise known as The 5th Place), where good coffee and delectable food meets an uplifting ambiance.

Trev Ng, the visionary founder of Optimist Coffee, embarked on a mission almost a decade ago to create a haven for coffee lovers. In 2021, he seized the opportunity to expand his coffee stand concept into a full-fledged eatery, giving birth to Feeling +. Since its opening in January 2022, the cafe has quickly become a beloved destination for both locals and visitors.

As you step into Feeling +, you will immediately notice its youthful and positive atmosphere. With Korean and Japanese influences, the interior showcases a minimalistic layout adorned with carefully curated furniture. Every single item, from the tables to the chairs, has been customised to create a unique space. The chairs, replicating benches found in a park, invite you to sit back and relax, while plants within the cafe mirror the lush greenery outside.

The ambiance at Feeling + is subtly motivating, encouraging visitors to slow down and savour the moment. Inspiring messages and charming doodles are scattered throughout the space. As you indulge in your cup of coffee or delicious sandwich, take a moment to appreciate the handwritten elements and artistic touches that contribute to the overall experience.

For their menu, Feeling + draws inspiration from the consultant chef, who brings a wealth of experience from Melbourne with over 10 years in the culinary industry. Crafting a fusion of Japanese and Korean flavours results in dishes like their kimchi sandwich. Whether you're a meat lover or prefer vegetarian options, Feeling + takes great care to cater to every palate.

Like a hidden treasure tucked away in Block A, Feeling + awaits you with great coffee, delicious toasties and the space to enjoy a good book.

Over at The Five Annexe is Areni where Danny Tai Wai Siong, founder and wine specialist, has cleverly transformed a showroom garage into an extraordinary haven for wine enthusiasts. With a decade of experience in the wine industry, Danny's expertise shines through in every aspect of Areni's offerings.

Having completed a diploma in wine and spirits from the prestigious Wine and Spirits Education Trust (WSET), Danny brings a wealth of knowledge and passion to Areni. He has also recently completed a specialised course focused on Burgundy, a renowned wine region in France. Inspired by the oldest cellar in the world, located in Armenia and dating back 6,000 years, Areni takes its name from this historic testament to winemaking.

Step into Areni and discover a treasure trove of approximately 150 curated wine labels, with a primary focus on French and Italian selections. However, Danny ensures a comprehensive representation of important wine-growing regions worldwide. The impressive wine cellar, meticulously maintained at a temperature of 16° to 18° Celsius, houses an extensive collection of wines, including whites, reds, and the highly sought-after Burgundy wines, made from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes.

One of the remarkable aspects of Areni is the range of price points it offers. From affordable yet quality options to premium, rare finds, there is a wine to suit every budget and occasion - whether that’s an everyday sip or celebrating a special milestone. Danny's personal interactions with customers play a significant role in guiding them towards the perfect wine choice. By understanding their preferences, he ensures that each guest's experience at Areni is tailored to their unique tastes and desires.

The unique atmosphere of Areni combines elements of an underground cellar with a modern interior, creating a cosy ambiance that evokes the charm of a European wine cellar. The careful design and attention to detail transport guests into a world where wine takes centre stage.

Alongside the exceptional wine selection, Areni also offers a tantalising array of delicacies to complement the wines. Treat your taste buds to the exquisite flavours of Jámon from Spain, artisanal cheeses from France, and cured seafood from northern Spain.

Whether you're a seasoned oenophile or a curious wine lover, Areni promises an unforgettable experience where every sip tells a story and every moment is infused with the passion and dedication of its founder.
